If Roy is still the hot tempered man he was before, then I do not believe he is the right fit for the Calgary Flames. Im still going towards Mitch Love.
I am surprised there has been no mention of Hartley. He was a great coach. I believe he is still overseas though.

I highly doubt Conroy is going to hire Patrick Roy when guys like Gallant, Travis Green, or even internal candidates are available.

Also, I noticed Dreger reporting that Treliving to the Leafs is a done deal. Meanwhile your sources had Dubas to Pittsburgh as an E4, but nothing has been announced yet. That said, both of these moves were fairly obvious for a couple of weeks now...

Itโ€™s not Calgary heโ€™s rumoured to be going to, itโ€™s Columbus.

As a CBJ STH I personally wanted Brunette. Now that he is gone my preference is Roy. Seeing what he is doing with Quebec makes me think he would be good with the young roster and being a former star goalie my hope would be he can do something to help Elvis improve.

So that leaves..Columbus and Calgary,

Those are Ek's words. My point is Calgary is very unlikely to even consider Roy. Columbus - sure, that's possible.

Also, I'm not saying Travis Green is a good hire. But the rumour is Conroy is interviewing him.

If Roy goes to CBJ Jarmo gets bumped up to President of Hockey Ops and Roy is named GM as well. He needs to have roster construction power. Itโ€™s why he left Colorado mind you. And save the snide remarks as without Roy, Colorado wouldโ€™ve drafted Seth Jones let us not forget.
The guy knows how to construct a team and knows how to teach and motivate and is a 100% respect for the game, no nonsense Front Office guy (recall him calling out Dutchy for mad hatter celebrating his 30th Goal in the 3rd of a 5-1 losing effort or something to that effect?).

Realistically, heโ€™s the only chance Toronto stands to ever be anything more than also ranโ€™s. They need an ego big enough to call out their stars, and one with credentials that stretch far enough to correct them into winning attitudes as well.
Is Shanahan the type of guy who can fight tooth and nail against someone and recognize them as a worthy combatant and bring them aboard for the betterment of the whole? Or is he not that type of leader?

Makes for interesting drama to say the least.
I think Roy to Toronto as HC/GM is the right move. But so often, what we need is the last thing we want.

His Ego will arrive about a day before him to let the organization know how things are going to be!

Wouldnโ€™t want him in mix on my team

Well he has a Jack adams and 3 stanley cups

sure beats a Gallant that keep getting fire to me

or ...beat even a Dubas at GM ? That amazes me if somebody else hires him, he has one single 2nd round appearance with great firepower ( at least during the season)

Concerning Gallant, it begs the question what does he do or say to his players that get's him fired. Everytime he gets hired he somehow makes a team instantly better.

Patrick Roy is a very talented hockey brain but a very bad personโ€ฆ

He is a winnerโ€ฆ but sometimes a toxic individual.

Honestly, I think there are better people available who are very good hockey people and good individualsโ€ฆ

Easy to be an arsehole with junior players but with guys making $10M a year, it is another storyโ€ฆ

The three Cups are kind of irrelevant, as far as this discussion goes anyway. They all came as a player.

Nobody is debating that he's one of the greatest goaltenders of all time. But his coaching history is much more open to criticism. Yes, he has the Jack Adams. The Avs were also eliminated in the first round that season.

3 Cups are relevant when, by my count, youโ€™ve got a single Cup Winner (Muzzin), and another runner up (Gio), while also having a group that has been described more than once by more than one writer as โ€œentitled.โ€
Roy will clean out the entitlement. Heโ€™s also a teacher, and not all coaches are. That said, he doesnโ€™t coddle, a fact that has made him particularly successful / popular with Russian imports and the source of scorn among satellite hockey parent types.

As for the other post and all of this โ€œbad personโ€ nonsense.
Save it. We all make mistakes. Some of ours stay within the privacy of our homes. Others have theirs splashed across the news media. Spare others your stones and theyโ€™ll spare you your glass walls.

NO!! He acted like an idiot climbing into the stands when he was a player and totally jammed sakic the way he resigned when he was the coach in colorado. Hard pass. there is a lot of talent out there; why deal with his behavior?

First round

Winning as a player and winning as as coach are two entirely different things though. He certainly knew how to win as a player. I think his (pro) coaching career isn't nearly as cut and dry.

Wasn't Roy the guy who would pull the goalie with like half the third period left?
